You alone are sovereign over creation.
You alone created the heavens and the earth.
You alone sustain and hold all things together.
You alone are the redeemer and re-creator.
We praise You for your wonderful creation,
But now plead with You for your intervention.
In the face of great tragedy we turn to You,
We ask that You step in with works of restoration.
Be with the families of those who were killed,
May they be comforted with Your peace.
Be with those who were injured,
May they experience Your healing.
Be with those whose jobs are affected in an already tough economy,
May they receive Your provision.
Be with those who are working to contain and clean up,
May they be guided and directed.
What a shame that Your creatures should suffer!
Lord, please protect and heal them.
What a shame that Your creation should be damaged!
Lord, please protect and restore it.
As we ourselves are somewhat complicit in this tragedy,
Forgive us for our role in this crisis.
Teach us to reduce our own consumption,
That we might better care for and protect Your creation.
We again acknowledge Your sovereignty.
We pray that Your restorative work would be manifest,
That Your Kingdom come and Your will be done here and now,
That Your name might be glorified in all the earth.
We pray all this in the name of our LORD,
the Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer of all things.
Father, we come to you not knowing what can be done for our waters and our earth and your creation, the animals, in this tragedy. But you know what to do. We pray that your highest will be done.
Divine holy spirit Creator God, we ask at this time in your Holy presence that you do whatever is possible to stop the contamination of our oceans and the massacre of our marine life in and around the Gulf area where the oil purges forth from Mother Earths oceans. We know that all things are possible in thy name, O Lord Christ, and that whatever happens is happening for the highest good of our planet and it’s peoples. May all negativity be expelled and repelled from that area! And so it is, and so it is , and so it is. Amen
You are the God of Provision!
You are the source of all life and blessing!
You are in full control!
May your compassion and love for creation shine through in this tragedy
May we join with creation in continuing to praise your holy name, despite the darkness of disparity surrounding this situation
Lord, we know not what to do
We feel helpless and hopeless in this situation
Lord, we surrender to you and your sovereignty
Lord, we release our helplessness and hopelessness to you
Where we feel void, may you fill us
Where we feel burdened, may you give us strength
Lord, give us the wisdom
Lord, give us the compassion
Lord, give us the direction
When we have no words…You know our hearts
Father, let your light shine and power be made known
We release this tragedy to you
We know that there is no “human” answer to reconcile this
We cling to you and your perfect plan
We entrust each creature, each plant, each beach, each person…every aspect of your creation affected by this disaster to your tender and loving hands!
Lord, you are the Redeemer of ALL things! We boldly call upon you now to REDEEM this situation.
Oh God, protect the Gulf Coast from hurricanes this season. It’s supposed to be a bad one. If there must be a major hurricane, since the Atlantic is getting so hot, smack Washington upside the head with it so they will stop thinking about expanding off-shore drilling to the coasts of Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida. “Gone With the Wind,” once was enough.
“Is there anything too hard for the Lord?” (Gen 18:14) We should however, keep Psalm 66:18 in mind while we pray fervently for the beautiful Gulf of Mexico: “If I regard iniquity (sin) in my heart, the Lord will not hear.” (prayers) Repentance first, then prayer!
O Trinity, we know You are alive and working to heal the evil spilled into and out of our hearts and the death bringing oil spilled into your water. Please help us to remember all that You create at every moment and to honor our connection to that life. Help us to listen to your healing love flowing through us and into any clogged artery in Your body that we call Creation. Remember us and have mercy on our selfishness and thoughtlessness. Help us to remember that we are all guilty of this pollution and that we are forgiven and given the strength to help clean it up.
Amen.
In you O God, all things are possible. Grant us wisdom and integrity, knowledge and strength to do what is needed in this tragedy. We acknowledge your great gift of all life, and become co-creators with you when we live in responsibility & love to all you have created. Amen
I offer the sorrow in my heart for this desecration of the waters of Mother Earth into the agency of Fire, where it may be transformed in prayer and carried upward to the Heavens. This sorrow is an expression of the love and intimate connection with Mother Earth. May any tears of sorrow cleanse us of the sense of separation from Her. May our intentions be received by the Celestials and lead to a restoration of balance to our planet. So be it. Tathastu.

Oil, deemed precious by the uncaring and the unaware, has been spilling out across your beautiful Gulf of Mexico. Pollution, misery and death are its companions wherever it goes. Human effort brought the oil out of the ground, and human effort alone has been unable to stem the tide of oil as it spills out in catastrophic numbers of barrels a day. And so we pray to you for your hand and heart of mercy to attend to what we cannot fix. O God protect what is yours. Forgive us for our blindness and greed, for not caring that our own behaviors and demands contribute to misery of this kind. Help us, O Creator, to find ways of stopping the spill and cleaning up the mess. Before it gets worse; or before we make it worse. Change our hearts, teach us wisdom in the ways of healing creation. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE GULF OIL DISASTER—EVE OF THE TOP KILL PROCEDURE
Almighty God–We cry out to You for wisdom in managing the Gulf oil leak challenges. We are eager to be good stewards of Your creation and our nation’s resources in the U.S. Please provide a hedge of protection in body, mind, and spirit on all those involved in managing this tragedy under grueling anxiety, pressures, and timetables. Please give those in leadership (corporate, government, environmental, and science/engineering) great wisdom, courage, cooperation, and the wise counselors needed to confront this great challenge. May human safety receive highest priority in managing all aspects of this crisis. May every creative method be mobilized to avert, confront, remove, or repair the ecological threat and damage. May You use the enormous skill and talents of all involved which are need at such a time as this in history to meet these challenges together for Your great honor and glory. We ask these things in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
Jesus said this is true: “Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.” (Mark 11:23-24)
Therefore, we come together to pray that the oil now polluting the sea return whence it came, and the earth close up sealing that leak, knowing that if we believe it has already happened, it shall be so, for the Gospels would never lie.
Amen.
This prayer must work. This prayer has already worked.
Dear Lord..please help the oil stop leaking into the Gulf Coast. Please keep your hands on the men trying to stop it and even more, please keep your hands on the wildlife suffering over this greedy disaster. Please show us how to stop abusing our world..and help us come together as one to make this a better place to live.
I pray for the all God’s creatures and our mother Earth and the ocean and the plant life- I pray for a miracle. May the love of God for our Earth stop the bleeding in the waters. May the hardened hearts of those greedy for money be turned to love for others.
My love and life prevail and heal the Earth NOW and all who live on her.
Please, Lord Jesus, be with the families of Louisiana right now as they struggle through the crisis. And please help the angry, the frustrated, the weak learn to lean on You. Let them not blame the villains; please Lord give those ‘villians’ wisdom. Let the governmener and BP work together to solve the crisis. Jesus, you want us to trust in you. Replace our fear with hope, anger with peace.
Praying for God’s help to fix this problem, praying for the loss of the 11 workers from this disaster, praying for there families, praying for offshore workers that don’t have work because of no new drilling (like my husband), praying for the shrimpers, oyster and fishing industry and everyone affected by this mess. Lord, help us to clean this mess up, you are in control and can do this, you have the power!!! In JESUS Name!!!!
Praised be your name above all creation now and forever. In your mercy, grant us wisdom in the face of disaster that we may trust in your Word that makes everything new. In Jesus, we pray. Amen.
I was thinking this morning how much I wanted to join in with others and pray for this disaster. I did a search and came across this website. The prayers are all so beautiful and so heart-felt. I read each one aloud and said one of my own. We may not all be able to help in the cleaning up efforts but we CAN all help with our prayers and by lessening our consumption of fossil fuels.
Lord God of salvation, creator of all we know, smell, touch, taste and hear. Unite us in spiritual resources in a supernatural way that in oneness with you through Christ Jesus, your order prevails in our universe. Let oneness verily embrace, Father. Forgive me where I fall short, Lord and for spiritual pride. Forgive the complainers Father, forgive those of indifference, forgive those blamers Lord. Time spent complaining about our leaders, and looking for who to blame, yet utterly indifferent until personally affected, is a false prophesy on God’s ability to accomplish all He has comprised in each position, trial and tribulation. The word I hear loud and clear Father, is REPENT!! A predominant issue for those; who presume grace, by prophesying a Christ who never knew them…is refusal to change. Thank you God that Life is a gift and nothing is wasted in Your universe! Generation after generation, the dark demon spirits of inferiority and insecurity have spilled through the fabric of your children like the dark oil spill now permeating the Gulf. Innocent animals, continue to suffer because of man’s irreverence for the gift of life and the precious treasures it holds. I praise you Father for the evidence you have not held back to reveal our powerlessness. I humble myself in your presence now; praying Father, that you will reveal each heart to uncover the sin in every camp. I ask for willingness, allowing Jesus to drag it into the light of His forgiveness and grace. I ask your imminent power prevail furthermore in a repeated fervent plea, first asked for us by Christ on the cross. Forgive us Father for we know not what we do. Forgive us that it is not in the undeniable, unfathomable evidence of your glory on high that we bow, but is only at the precipice we change. Praise God that He wants none to perish, and restrains and protects us from much more untold damage than we ignorantly release on a daily basis. I ask for continued mercy and grace on your bride, Lord, and I pray for restoration of all you survey, your earth, air, heavens, your ocean, plant and animal life, beaches, marshes, and everything damaged in this disruptive oil spill we are faced with. And with the resurrection of this restored life bring with it upon the hearts of men, belief in the your Son who bore it all and finished it, in obedience to You sovereign God, that we may have a perfect example to follow! I ask it in Jesus Holy and precious name, So be it, Amen……
“God save us and the creatures. We know not what we do. Please guide the scientists and engineers to be able to fix this problem. Send us a miraculous gift by providing the people involved with answers. Guide all the animals and life away so that they might be saved. Help us use our energies to stop the problem and not waste them on blaming others.”
Thank you for this website and thank you to all of you who shared your prayers!
Dear Lord, I pray for a resilient Gulf of Mexico. I pray this poisonous oil inflicts the least amount of damage possible. For all those involved in clean-up and organizing response actions-provide them with determination and wisdom to do their jobs to the best of their ability. I echo these words: “Where we feel void, may you fill us
Where we feel burdened, may you give us strength” Jesus, help us to see what we can do to help in this situation. Communities are being greatly affected-help ensure the resources are there to support people. Remind us to love and forgive as you do-our love for the Gulf and the love we share for one another can exceed the greed and sorrow from this trajedy. In Jesus, I pray. AMEN (Let peace rest in my heart)
What time we are afraid, we will trust in you.
from Psalm 56:3
But now, O Yahweh,
thou art our father;
we are the clay, and thou our potter;
and we are all the work of thy hand.
Be not wroth, very sore,
O Yahweh,
neither remember iniquity forever.
Behold, see, we beseech thee,
we are all thy people.
Isaiah 64:89
Father, Yahweh, you have given us dominion over the Earth and we have not kept our trust. We don’t know how.
Please take back dominion of the earth you have created. Teach us how to care for it and not abuse our earth and the pets you gave us, the animals. If you treated us the way we treat the animals you gave us for our pets, we would be utterly destroyed. Have mercy on us. Forgive us. Teach us how to handle dominion.
But while we do not know what we do, you take back dominion. You, who hold the hearts of all people in your hand, change our hearts to desire thy will. Guide our hands as a father would guide the hand of his child who is just learning. Put your hands on ours and cause us to do thy will. Only your will holds safety for all your creation.
Our Redeeming Lord,
Praises! Praises! Praises be to your name for Your people who have committed themselves to you in this disaster. Lord we pray for protection and sustainable for all those effected by this great horrific event. Lord, we do not know your timing, we do not even know your whole plan, but we know of your great love for all of creation and we pray that YOUR will be done in this event.
May you be seen as the redeemer of all things amidst this great devastation. May your spirit of peace and comfort surround and embody each living creature, each person, and all of creation in the eye of this great storm.
Lord, may you give eyes to see you and ears to hear you to all those who are seeking your wisdom and guidance. May your Spirit fall upon those in power who are making great decisions. May you be in control of the companies and the government as new ideas and new directions form to control the spill.
Lord, may you continue work and be alive in those who are praying and empowering others along the Gulf Coast.
Lord, you are sovereign. You are loving. You are powerful = a great plan to come, even though we cannot seem to see its possibility!!!!!!
In Bible study this morning, the phrase “and let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts” came up on my thoughts again and again (Colossians 3:15). Peace comes from the Greek “shalom,” to be complete and whole and one with God — much more than peace as the absence of conflict. And the word “rule” in Greek may be understood as “to sit as the umpire.”
We seek to ask that the peace–completeness, wholeness–of Christ may rule–sit as the umpire–in our hearts as we work together as citizens of nation and world, victims and perpetrators, bystanders and activists, to seek a resolution to this disaster that brings an end to the spill of oil, and seeks wholeness for all of God’s people and God’s creation. Amen.
Almighty God, Our fathers worshiped you with understanding and faith. In our past both their faith and their sacrifices built us as a nation through severe loss and fear. We, their children, remember that faithfulness to you and your faithfulness to us. We have allowed ourselves to empower leaders who wilfully disacknowledge you in favor of gods we have not known. You are our Creator and Sustainer. Bring us as a people back to you and be our Mighty Help in this our time of disaster, fear and need. In the precious name of Jesus Christ. Amen
I understand that you help those who pray and take action. Even though as of this time, all I can offer is prayer, I pray with all of my heart.
I pray that the people who have the most influence in cleaning up the oil spill problem be able to use their wisdom on how to effectively solve it. I hope that all people in that region will be united in saving the lives of your creations affected by the oil spill. I pray that instead of complaints or blames, there will be a widespread awareness of solutions that can be done.
I hope that there will be unification of various organizations having only these intentions: to solve the oil spill problem, to do everything they can not to save the profits of a company but to save lives and to provide guidelines on how not to let something like this ever happen again.
I pray that creations affected by the spill be able to survive with your help. Amen.
Give us the strength, the faith and the love to overcome this horrible event. Give us the intelligence to find a way to reverse this tragedy and try to stop the pollution that its causing! Its destroying so many things, beautiful things you’ve created… Please help those who are now in charge of what had happened, by deciding and taking actions. Give me and show me the way to continue the wish for me to study Environmental engineering. And I know I’ll come up with something to try to fix this. This is one of my motivations…Please, help us among the way… Amen.
Lord
We ask you Father to answer our prayers over the Gulf Oil Spill. Even though we know in reality that you did not answer the prayers of those trapped aboard the hijacked airplanes on Sept 11 2001, and could have averted the tragedy but chose to allow them to perish in flames, we come to you. Your wisdom is greater than ours; that is why we do not question why the prayers of over 4000 families in the US for their children fighting in the Middle East for our Christian nation have been ignored. We are so blindly in love with you even though you have allowed without raising a finger, countless Christains to lose their homes, their jobs due to the poor economy. You have sat back on your throne watching as church goers who believe in the man you have put into their churches, give millions of dollars away to con men. And yet your grace is enough Lord. You know, for an omnipotent God, you really don’t do much of anything do you? Are you there Lord? Answer us! Or are you imaginary and just a figment of our overactive imagination and years of brain washing? We are giving you a chance oh Lord-we pray that you will supernaturally make all the oil disappear. And don’t tell me if you answered this prayer it would interfere with our free will. Did you take into account Moses’s free will when you parted the Red. Sea? Get off your throne God and do something miraculous-think how many people would come to Christ when they witnessed the supernatural disappearance of the oil?! It would be the Christian revival we are talking about! But if you don’t answer why should we continue to worship a lazy God who does nothing? The choice is yours God!

But now, O Yahweh,
thou art our father;
we are the clay, and thou our potter;
and we are all the work of thy hand.
We thank you and we praise you.
In the name of Yahshua,
Amen
Amen
Dear God,
I understand that you help those who pray and take action.
Amen.
Dear God
O Lord,
Jesus said this is true: “Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him.
Amen.
(I’m joining my fasting of Friday 9 July for this intention. Lord hear our prayer)
